Curated space

This project centres around a child’s room on Frederiksbjerg in Aarhus, created for a young boy who wished for more calm, clarity and a space that invited him to close the door and simply be present. The brief was to create surroundings that felt safe and grounding, while still allowing room for play and personality - without visual clutter.

The process began with an in-person dialogue with the client, where we discussed wishes, expectations and budget, and where I experienced the room firsthand. From there, I developed moodboards exploring atmosphere, colour palette and furniture direction, which were approved before moving into sourcing and execution.

All elements in the room are vintage or reused pieces, curated specifically for the space. The total budget for furniture and objects was 5,000 DKK, which was kept throughout the project. Storage and display played a key role: toys needed to be visible and accessible, yet organised and calm. One particularly important object was the child’s Titanic ship, which is now given a central, respectful place on vintage steel shelving -transforming it from a source of clutter into a personal focal point.

The result is a room that balances structure and softness: a space that encourages calm, presence and independence, while still leaving space for imagination and everyday life.
